Just to clarify: Grice had a closed head injury -- to relieve brain swelling he had what's called a hemicraniectomy. A piece of skull is surgically removed, and stored for later (sometimes inside the body!). Otherwise the pressure inside the skull would cause terrible damage, and likely kill him. Once the swelling has subsided, it's put back in. This procedure is actually pretty common.
That said there is no way he should continue to fight. He keeps saying "could," and likely he could (although he might be slower and clumsier) but probably the doctors are telling him he SHOULD not fight. More damage just increases his dementia risk, and may exacerbate current issues (I'm guessing attention, concentration, and emotional regulation). Imo he should apply for disability and/or get a nice teaching position. It's really good to see him looking and feeling better though.
