Fighting in the clinch: DC vs Jones

I was watching St Pierre vs Hendricks and something that happened early on in the first round was a lot of knees in the clinch from Hendricks on GSP's knees and thighs. DC could use it to slow down Jones' movement but fighting in the clinch wears out your arms, so would the clinch be something Jones wants since it would take away from the knockout power of DC if Jones wore him arms out.

Didn't we just watch that fight? Look what happened to Glover in the clinch where he was supposed to be stronger. Not saying Glover is DC, but I don't see where he will be able to make a huge difference against someone with Jon's leverage and pedigree.

You are implying that dc doesn't want to strike with jones.

According to who? When has Glover ever shown much a clinch striking game, let alone a clinch striking game on par with Jones? I thought that Glover could generally avoid getting taken and held down by Jones (and that more or less happened), but he has never really been a fighter to break someone down in the clinch.

Exactly what I said in the other Jones/DC thread. Jones was always the favorite in the clinch. Glover's biggest advantage was in close boxing range. Joe Rogan confuses that with clinch fighting.

And TS. Jones isn't the one that's gonna be wearing out DC. DC's mastered the art of controlling men of his same size, and manipulating their bodies at the highest level. DC will wear Jones out in the clinch, and it will shock many people, but not me.

OK, NVM, I read the OP wrong. I get what you were trying to say. No, Jones won't let DC get him up against the cage just to wear his arms out. Jones is a point fighter to the highest order (not in the GSP sense). He tries to impose his will on you, and win every second of the fight. Jones won't purposely let DC pin him up against the cage and control him. DC will force it upon him.

That could be a strategy for DC but Jones is pretty strong in the clinch. I'm not sure which way I would lean, but guess we'll find out soon enough.

If we are talking about clinch grappling, i see it as Finesse(Jones) vs Power(Cormier).

In terms of who looks to have the advantage in the clinch, it would probably be cormier as jones length will make it very difficult to overcome his disadvantages.

Jones will have to be creative if it becomes a clinch war IMO. Jones may also need to learn how to fight small with Cormier who is an exceptional pocket striker. I think Cormier will make jones fight small and if jones cant adapt he may be in for a long night.

As dangerous as Jones is in the clinch against the wall, I don't think he'll try and take it there or spend too much time close up. Jones will keep this a striking match for how long it takes.
