On the flipside, take a very athletic top level bjj guy who's never wrestled, but starts working on his wrestling to better his MMA game (and really actually works at it) and his level of grappling becomes ridiculous when he adds explosive takedowns, etc.

If you want an example, look at the current MW rankings, one guy near the top in particular, likes to crawl like a crocodile after he wins...

He could do as well as Kerr, but that's not as impressive as what f.e. Serra did, going skill for skill in those international grappling tourneys.

DC isn't subbing black belts there. He'd be taking them down and holding position to not get subbed and to win on points.
Kerr was up against a relatively weak field too. Not to say what Kerr did wasn't impressive, but...

Weidman vs Galvao is the best example of what you're talking about with Serra.

I don't think DC is holding the top level HW grapplers down anyway. I could be wrong, Randy stalled out Jacare like that in their match...not sure.

Or Monson. Hell, I've seen Tito & Hughes getting credit for competing there.

It tends to follow a similar pattern with strong wrestlers vs skilled, weaker BJJ guys.

I think Cain would fit this bill better than DC, as he's a better ground grappler and bigger, them both being basically absolute guys, since DC probably can't make 88 kilos.

Never happened. It doesn't work the other way around. That's my point.

The guy your alluding to is over-rated and won't get past Moose.
