So if silva goes onto fight jones and wins, then gsp really lost his chance at being viewed as the best in the world (he'd have to beat silva to do so). I mean, I guess they could still fight then, but I get the feeling anderson will retire after a bones fight if it happens.

LOL, please.
Putting your obvious GSP hatred aside, that's nonsense that the scenario couldn't play out that way.
In that scenario, you have the #1 P4P (Silva) going and beating the #3 P4P (Jones), then the #2 P4P (GSP). Great scenario.
You're insane to think Silva vs. GSP wouldn't sell under any circumtances.

if silva beats jones then in the eyes of most people, the gsp fight is a wash. It will sell, but if silva can beat the much bigger wrestler in jones who is arguably a greater fighter p4p than gsp then who really doubts that he can beat gsp?
The onus will then be on gsp to seek out the fight if he wants to be considered the best, otherwise he has to shut up about wanting to be the best. And even if he did seek it out, who knows if anderson will be around by that time. If GSP let's this pass him by then whenever he says, "I want to be known as the greatest" the obvious response will be: "well you had your chance to show you were the greatest. Now we knows it's silva (or bones if he wins)."
And I don't hate gsp, but I certainly harbour resentment towards him as many other fans do. He is the sole obstacle to the gsp/silva superfight, which is the fight I want to see most.

There you go again.
That really burns your ass when he says that does it? Trust me I know how blood-thirsty desperate you (and that element in here is) that want to see GSP get the living shit kicked out of him and knocked the fuck out into unconsciousness.
I know! It seeps out of these boards.
But, following your scenario... it's a wash if Silva beats Jones first, thus the fight with GSP has to be first.
Well what if GSP beats Silva first - how viable is Jones/Silva?
There's some Silva huggers that have this foregone conclusion arrogance about that fight and assume it's a 15 second victory without breaking a sweat.
So, that's how you're framing the scenario in your mind.
Silva/GSP will sell no matter what.
Given your fan-base and its' concensus absolute 101% certainty that Silva will obliterate GSP within the first round, no problem.... and how you sooooo desperately and orgasmically want to see Silva KTFO GSP -
You're telling me you wouldn't want to see the fight no matter if the fight is first, second, anytime? Of course you would.
It's the greatest fight ever (PPV wise), it'll sell anytime, under any circumstance.

If I was Soares I would definitely be making comments about him being unable to make 170. As his manager you would be pushing for catch weight, Anderson has zero perks dropping to 170 and Soares should push against a ww bout.

Something like 10+ years ago. He was 168 against Sakurai in '01 (that was the limit in shooto), I -think- his pride fights were in the 185 division, but I'm not 100% positive. Cage rage was at 185 for sure, that's ~2004.

If anything GSP should go up to 185. No one expects Silva to fight at 170 when he fights at 185 and 205.

GSP is 185 so how about 176?

Anderson admits he can easily make 170 and he has fought there before but he also knows GSP would be the favorite at WW and so he would never take that fight. Instead he will seek to have GSP fight outside WW for the first time in his career so he can gain every advantage.

Not even Anderson's manager knows what the fuck is going on with this guy...
What a side show.

I do want to see silva knock gsp out, but I'm not certain it will happen. I want to see the fight to see who would win. And I agree that the fight would sell, barring an unlikely streak of losses for the two. But the perceptions will change. If anderson goes up in weight and beats a bigger, more violent, and more dangerous fighter in jones then I don't think many people would think gsp would beat him. Gsp would then have to play catch up and call out anderson if he wanted to be considered the best fighter ever. The onus would shift to gsp to initiate it. Therefore if he was saying something along the lines of "My goal is to be the greatest" then the easy response is, "ok, we know you're the greatest ww ever, so why don't you challenge anderson silva."
So he would either have to fight anderson or just kind of accept that he's not going to be remembered as the wayne gretzky of mma.
OF COURSE, this is all hypothetical. My initial post was a hypothetical situation. I did use some harsh words which is what I'm sure offended you in the first place, as well as your impression that I already think its a wash that silva beats st pierre.
There's not really much else to say, as I've refuted one of those points and the other I simply don't care about.
