I can understand why people think Rousey is a one trick pony. But lets be honest fighters cant stop gsp's takedowns. As Hioki said after the guida fight: it was my fault I couldnt stop the takedowns.

I am not impressed by rouseys armbars as much as I am impressed by her transitions when setting up the armbar. Her opponents know its coming but she is always gaining a position advantage and going for the submission at the same time.

People also seem to forget how intense Rouseys training was for the Olympics. This gave her a huge edge when starting in MMA. Similar to why wrestlers make an easier transition to Mma then any other martial arts.

Thing about Palhares is that he has shown that if his one trick fails the first time, it completely screws up his mindframe in the fight.

When Ronda didn't get the first armbar on Tate, she didn't panic, even when Tate got her back. Instead she was patient, created the right moment, and then took the arm.

It's not a trick, it's unstoppable skills, years of hard work and determination, and great fight IQ, with an Olympic medal to show for it.

For his part, Palhares is not so much of a "one trick" kind of guy, he's just very Bader-like in that when his Plan A (complete domination) doesn't work, he kind of fades very quickly.

It's likely that Ronda is developing some serviceable standup. We just haven't seen it yet.
