His slow rounds in the first and second are there for him to get his timing down. If he is aggressive in those rounds he risks getting knocked out.
It's a catch 22. Because like Natman said, his inactivity in early rounds has been known to cost him fights (Rampage). Overly aggressive = knocked out. Under aggressive = forfeited rounds leading to a decision loss. Surely Machida can find some sort of middle ground? Although at 36 years of age I doubt he's got much more evolving to do as a fighter.
