There is no denying that Overeem was being arrogant and cocky... and I believe it is one of the main reasons that he was knocked out... although his lack of cardio was also evident... but two things come to mind in the discussion after this fight... first, that Big Foot does not get the respect that he deserves, the man did his job and fought a damn good fight.. and second, why are people so ready to give Alistair a pass on the high and mighty attitude?
Sure, he was winning the first two rounds... but that cocky, arrogant attitude is part of the personality.. it is not some one off. TO be frank, I found Overeem to be annoying in the build up to the fight, not because some of the trash talk (we are so use to it now), but rather the condescending view he seems to have towards his opponents, and colleagues. It really appeared that Alistair was buying his own hype... and during the fight, it was just obvious.
THere is no denying the man has talent... but there are a lot of questions still to be answered. First, is if he is going to be the same fighter after the suspension..er I mean licensing issue... Second, is he going to learn from this loss? To be frank, Alistair could take this loss for what it was, and make sure that it never happens again. Many great champions have met adversity, and emerged much better for it.. time will tell what the loss to Silva will mean to Overeem..
In the mean time, lets give Big Foot his due, he did a hell of a job and deserved the win!
