I was thinking the exact same thing.

it turned Zuffa from one more promotion into the absolute #1 promotion.
From there on, everyone wanted to be in the UFC, and the other acquisitions happened.

Without Pride breaking and folding into Zuffa, none of this would happen.

And after it did happen, all other promotions would have eventually closed out and lost all talent to Zuffa anyway.

When Zuffa acquired PrideFC, you could feel it throughout the MMA community. Yeah, WEC was big too, but there was something different about taking over Pride. The one real competitor that had the talent and entertainment value to go head to head with the UFC was finally gone. From that point on, like it or not, you were going to be watching MMA in a cage, with the unified rule system. That's why the argument about Pride vs. UFC rages on in every MMA forum to this day.

MMA needs a Fighter's Union.

The reason I have pride at #1, is because buying out Pride made them the clear #1 organization.

WEC and Strikeforce were not seriously competing with the UFC. Strikeforce would have if they didn't buy it then though.
This, if there was no purchase of Pride, there would be no clear #1 org. Meaning many top fighters could have chosen to compete in Pride instead of the UFC.

As hard as it may be to believe, it seems like wec and sf have had a bigger impact than pride, which was what i immediately thought of when I read the title. Other than the spider, most pride stalwarts have sort of petered out. If fydor would have come over, it would have been a different story

PRIDE - Shogun, Nog & Page all became champs.

WEC - Aldo, Bendo, Pettis, MM & Cruz all champs

It's the WEC but my heart is with PRIDE

Page and Nog had already left Pride when the Ufc took over Pride.

I'd say Pride because it cemented the UFC as the leader in MMA and ended all the baseless claims by Pride nuthuggers that the UFC was inferior. While the WEC gave the UFC 2 more divisions in FW and BW those divisions don't really sell PPV's while the Pride stars certainly did. Also the WEC was acquired in a time when it really wouldn't have made a difference the UFC still would be huge without the small weight classes while if the UFC hadn't bough Pride you never know what would have happened despite IMO UFC being superior.

WEC Ran profitably for years, was a revolution when it was disolved into the UFC and had some of the best talent we have today.

WEC by far

135 and 145 classes were added. Its top lightweights run the UFC now.

Even when the WEC still had 170, they had Condit.

I could keep on going. WEC forever. They others had some big buys too though.
