Matt Brown's great clinch work

I only saw the first and second round of the fight because my dvr didn't record the whole fight night because it lasted longer then scheduled but Matt's clinchwork against the cage was impressive. When Lawler had him pinned against the cage, he found ways to disrupt Lawler's balance with trips, land elbows and solid knees.

Extremely impressive. Not often will you see a guy outstrike another in the clinch with his back on the fence.

It's an enigma; he's got a horrible jab, throws awkward kicks, levels himself wide open when throwing power shots, leads with his face a lot....but in the clinch his elbows and knees are super fluid.

He also did well at controlling Robbie's arms so Robbie couldn't unload with short hooks and uppercuts although Ruthless did land a couple including a really strong hook when Matt's back was to the cage.

Similar to using wrist control to prevent gnp when on your back.

yeap... brown has the best clinch in mma, but every other aspect of his striking is awkward. with that said, he never takes a step backwards.

Agreed . The way he kicks and punch look really akward . Even his striking defense look weird and funny but sometimes effective. I think he just comfortable doing those awkward things. Hes a beast though

Not clinch work, but the elbow he does off of hand fighting is great.

Yeah, I was thinking that THAT would be his main strategy in this fight, punch his way in and try to get ahold of Robbie and smother him/beat him up from the inside. I'm surprised that his corner didn't MAKE it the gameplan after seeing how successful it was early on.
