Fitch on the other hand surprised me a lot in this fight. To me, the only way for Fitch was for Demian to get tired, because to me it was not possible for him to avoid Demian's takedowns. The question was if Demian would be able to get a clean sub attempt chance.

The way Fitch did it was amazing. And hearing Demian talk about how he does it, it gets even more impressive.
He defended not only one, but several, like 9 or 10 sub attempts, from his back, and in some really disadvantageous situations.
Most jiu jitsu black belts would be finished right there in Demian's first attempt. Fitch endured a number of these attempts... The man's got a real talent there.

Fitch is a really impressive fighter, every fight I watch this guy I'm more impressed at how clever and experienced he is.

Thanks for your insight again. I love the way you contrast how Erick Silva and Demian Maia recounted their respective attempts to choke out Fitch.

Maia appears to be an incredibly cerebral fighter. The way he dissects the technical nuances of the game is something I really appreciate. I guess this is to be expected of someone with his technical mastery of BJJ.

goes to show that maia is one of the most technical fighters out there. he even took time to study and analyze fitch's anatomy ffs. would like to see maia vs an elite striker, maybe condit or diaz, or why not simulate a fight with gsp in the form of the canadian psycho rory. a win against any of them would definitely mean a title bid later this year or early 2014
