Nothing tops Brock's "New Breed" hype though. People actually drank that Kool-Aid. It was by far the most embarrasing chapter in MMA history.

Cain and JDS aren't new breed at all. The context of new breed was size-related and Cain and JDS are the same size as Fedor/Nog/CC. In fact Cain/JDS also mirror similar skillsets to Fedor/CC. "New breed" never made any sense. It was just a BS marketing phrase to promote the UFC as being something qualitatively different when it wasn't (or to hide the fact when it was worse in fact).
Agreed 100%. Can someone explain what exactly makes Junior and Cain new breed?

JDS: Good boxer with big power who has great takedown defense and ability to scramble back to his feet

Cain: Great wrestler who has developed solid striking

What makes either of these guys "new breed"

HW has and always will be the shitiest division in MMA. Not counting Female MMA. The problem is that there aint so many talented big guys walking around.

I agree with this completely. My point wasn't to poke fun at Rogan for hyping Wes Sims, it was to show how silly this recurring notion of a new breed at HW is. "New breed" isn't just a turn of phrase, it is part of the just bleed fiction that whoever fights within the octagon at a given time is necessarily the best in the world. The best HW in MMA history was a short chubby guy. The most dominant HW today is a short chubby guy, and his only real competition is a short chubby guy with an identical skill set who moved to LHW.
