Well if he beats McDonald you really can't deny him a title shot...

that's pretty much what I think

they've had lots of guys like that, florian, fitch, franklin, who were clearly #2 but couldn't get over the hurdle. they usually just let them keep fighting until they decline.

what else can you do with him? too good to cut, but too many title shots already. just give him intriguing matchups and let things continue.

I think he just likes training and competing.

He owns several houses in the Sacramento area, owns a gym, appears in ads, and probably has other business interests.
He's probably the most savvy fighter, in terms of making money.
I hear about guys like GSP/Anderson/Jones being "endorsed" by bigshots like Underarmor and Nike, but Urijah is the ONLY one I see in the mainstream. (and Page to a lesser extent)

You wouldn't ever hear him complain about fighter pay because that's just beer/pizza money to him.
yea thats true - those who use the ufc as a platform for bigger things are the ones who really are going to make money - but as you say, fighters like to fight

He is in that gatekeeper situation and I wouldn't match up Faber and McDonald.

Faber could wrestle McDonald and actually get UD.

They should build more McDonald and maybe give Faber fight with Assuncao if he beats Dillasaw, winner gets title shot at Barao.

Faber did lose that fight to Barao but it's not like Barao was pounding on him for 5 rounds. With better striking from Faber, more pushing for TD I can see that fight being much more interesting
