The violence inherit in it pushes away the general audience.

Injuries push away the casual audience that would otherwise be interested.

This is a major issue because casual audiences are, ultimately, what make something like the UFC successful in the long term.

Pettis. Swanson. Holloway. McGregor. Rumble. Werdum. Wonderboy. Namajunas.

The biggest problem with MMA that will make it a fringe sport is because there's no consistent fighter/team for people to identify with. People grow up being fans of local teams throughout their lives and that's a big driver into what causes a population to keep watching a sport.

Most people will watch MMA, become a fan of a few fighters, then see them fighter decline and retire and they have difficulty getting attached to the next big names.

They should've absolutely stacked those cards, instead they treated it like Spike and now they aren't really any bigger than they were on Spike.
And Benson vs Guida was a great fight, too, and would have been a quality co-main even if they just showed two fights on TV instead of the one.

I also think the false promise of superfights hasn't helped. People wanted Anderson and St-Pierre back in 2010 and 2011. People wanted Anderson and Jones in 2012 and 2013. You can't make people fight if they don't want to fight, but those were two huge missed opportunities that would've got a lot of mainstream attention for the sport and would've made a lot of money.

MMA in this day and age is not "violent" enough considering how violent this world is

PRIDE rules in the UFC with elbows is the way to go

Should have been enacted years ago

Currently MMA is too watered down to be taken seriously

Seems to be only about humping the opponent against the cage these days which turns off the casuals.

The sport needs to evolve not devolve

Paige & Sage

You either retire a legend, or fight long enough to see yourself become the can

Thank you Holly Holm!

The biggest problem are things like not having title fights abroad, this whole Gus/Jones affair, sucky international cards etc...

Like the market for people willing to watch two men (or women) beat each other with fists, elbows, shins and knees is only so big in every country. The way to grow the sport is not to get 5% of america watching but 0,5% in the US, 0,5% in France, 0,5% in Spain and so on. You can't model fighting after the NFL's business model.

Fighting started getting popular because it was brutal and exciting. Now too many fights are semi homo hug contests, only Joe Rogan likes those and he is ready to call you an idiot if you dont.
