I would have to call it a death wish of some kind or Magalhaes thought he might get a submission chance after repeatedly being slammed by Davis.

This fight made no sense to me. It seems like Davis was borderline a contender not that long ago. Now he fighting someone who is not even mid-level in the UFC LHW ranks IMO. Not sure what anyone gets out of this.

In the Sonnen-Jones matchup, at least you get Sonnen on TUF and his trash talking to major media outlets to sell the fight. I hated that matchup as well though, but I can understand the business motivation.

That's the whole story if the fight. Magalhaes is flat-footed, extremely slow and horribly bad in the striking department. He's the definition of a one trick pony. Calling out Davis and talking the trash he did was just a slap in the face of MMA fans.

probably expected to be able to outstrike davis, either forcing him to take him down or just beating him entirely on the feet

tbf davis probably has the least dangerous striking in the top 5 (or top 10 for that matter) and is the only one who isnt almost guaranteed to ko him on the feet

if you watched his previous fights, davis hands always looked awful but he had powerful kicks, vinny probably was gameplanning to catch one and get a takedown (which he did one time)

You really think he was expecting to beat Davis on feet? I don't know. My idea is more that Davis being a wrestler who likes to go on the ground (more a Hughes than a Henderson, he uses more submissions than strikes), he thought Davis would try to beat him with his own style, not caring about Malgalhaes being a world champion.
But maybe he was expecting winning the striking too.

I realize your question is rhetorical, TS but he called him out for the same reason Belcher called out Bisping. They watched Chael talk his way in to an undeserved title fight and figured call-outs were the name of the UFC game now. It's the best chance for a fighter way lower in the pecking order to jump the line.

All that trash talking for this.

Vinny should do like Demian and Palhares and admit his unidimensionality.

"Lyoto is very fast, vroom vroom" - Shogun

"Lions don’t apologize for being lions." - Belfort

"Lyoto really does fight like Lyoto" - Wanderlei

"They don't tink like i tink" - McGregor
