Rory/Woodley reminded me of Pavlik/Miranda
... in an MMA sense. Both Tyron and Edison (back in '07) were highly explosive power punchers with momentum and intrigue both going for them. Woodley made it no secret that he wanted a title shot after beating Condit. Hounded Dana for one, even. Miranda made it no secret that he wanted JT (made a callout video). I think that both, deep down, felt they had developed an aura of some sort and couldn't possibly get exposed en route to their respective title shots. And it showed in each of their next fights.
Pavlik took the fight right to Edison and he had absolutely no answer. It was an entertaining fight (almost made up for the Taylor/Spinks atrocity), but pretty one-sided. Edison looked completely bewildered, and made zero adjustments.
Same for Woodley. Rory took command of the center of the octagon early and often, and easily picked him apart. Like Miranda, Woodley made zero adjustments and it appeared as if there was no gameplan on his side. He obviously thought his ability to close distance was going to be way too much for Rory. At least that's what I got out of it.
