The MLB is much better off now without the dark cloud of PEDs.
It was probably a nightmare for the commissioner of baseball (Selig I think?) at the time. I mean, they had the home run race with Bonds and Sosa, life was good for baseball, popularity was high. So, he turned his head, thinking it would be better off- "Out of sight, out of mind".
Unfortunately, word got out and it almost destroyed the game. Now, finally, it is back and it's actually better than ever.
I know a lot of fans think it would be better and more entertaining if we let them juice and bang, tune in and turn our heads to the PEDs. But, I disagree, I think it would be better for the sport if we just face it head on before it becomes an issue.
The MMA is already viewed negatively by the common sport fan. The last thing we need is more ammo for the detractors.
And who knows... Maybe, just maybe, this could be the break the UFC needs. A legit, clean sport, a technical and artistic display of martial arts at it's finest. Maybe fans will prefer that. Sure, less brutal knockouts (or home runs in baseball), but more incredible displays of pitching, base running, fielding and hitting.
Let's just skip the dark cloud era before it begins.
