The management company supports the fighters throughout training. Think of it less like a management company and more like an investment. They have 4-5 fighters that they are pumping money into. If what the management team says is true, they still have not broke even with all of Hendricks success. If he had to work a second job or something else, it could very well be he would be coaching somewhere right now rather than about to fight for the title. I'm not saying its right, but please read the whole article before saying its ridiculous.

Other than that, great article - thanks for posting it.
It is a good system of payment if you don't make big money. For a fighter making $50,000-$200,000 it sounds sweet and is great when you are starting out. Living expenses, healthcare trainers all paid for is nice but after that $200,000 range it starts to kill. Imagine JH making GSP money, he'd have to pay 6 million a year for the exact same thing GSP is paying at most 1-2 million for.

Plus, with that much invested in a fighter there is likely a tendency to ensure you get your investment back when the fighter is hurt or too old and shouldn't fight. Pro football does it all the time. So instead of telling a fighter to hang it up when they lose the edge they would likely encourage them to make a last couple of fights for big pay checks. Say what you will about Dana but he wanted Chuck to retire 1 or 2 fights earlier than he did and he wasn't even his manager anymore (pretty standup for a promoter to do that).

If the management company got Hendricks the Reebok endorsement, 50/50 is worth it.

It's worth it when you don't have a pot to piss in but not so great when the money starts to roll in. No worries, once Hendricks makes some big money he'll end that contract as fast as shit flows after drinking tap water in Mexico.

Brings to light the real issue behind fighters not having enough $$$

Management, coaches, gym fees, etc. are the real reason UFC fighters aren't making enough money

If the UFC pays you 50k but you only keep 10k is that really the UFCs fault
