the out of reach low kick is hard to set up and easy to check. after seeing what happened to Anderson people can only be weary of them.
the calf kick is a bit stupid as you're aiming too damn near the shin. I'd say it's only useful if you have tree trunks for a leg and fight 155ers.
and yes fighter's today are keen to eat a low kick if it means they can rush their opponent to the ground and LnP them to a decision.
