Icon1 Is there an MMA news site left that doesn't use the same generic website design?

Sherdog may be it.

Seriously, can anyone tell the difference anymore between:

Bloody Elbow:

MMA Fighting:

MMA Junkie:

MMA Mania:

I understand this is the 'new' website design these days for basically every site, but it SUCKS and doesn't differentiate websites at all. The whole 5 tile and 3 scrolling tile splash main page makes me want to visit it less too, not click more. Does anyone dare break this trend among news sites anymore or is it just a matter of paying some web design 'expert' a few grand to make it look like shit?

It's all templates bro.

This doesn't just apply to MMA, it's like that for almost all news, informational sites.

I freelance.

I understand this, and I'm sure they have their focus groups or whatever that say this is the way to generate clicks, but does no one take into consideration that when you look like every other competitor then how do you differentiate?

I think content trumps design, as long as design is acceptable and doesn't hinder user experience. The sites you mentioned are easy to navigate, accessible from mobile/tablet, and have a clean design.

MiddleEasy seems like a site that's trying to differentiate itself from the pack and just my opinion, I think it's the worst looking site out of all of the MMA news sites out there. For me, the bangers font did the site in, it's just plain ugly to look at (make note to self never to use that font).

Competing against yourself is the oldest trick in the book of capitalism.

Also, I don't think TS understands that SBnation own all the examples he showed and they are all part of the same network.
In fact, they also link to each other quite a bit and promote each other.
Each outlet has it's own writers and contributors, thus creating a diversity, despite the similar design.
As long as the content is solid, I think design is secondary.
