No it sounds like the correct way a belt should be awarded from one person to the next. Linear titles do not allow for created titles such as interim belts to exist. They take away politics and cant be manipulated, it is a simple concept to understand. The ufc belt was a minor title at the time though randy, bas and barnett had all walked away from it as champ.

I guess that was the done thing at the time.

It made for an epic post fight reaction when he defeated Nog, and regained the 1/2 title. One of my favourite moments in MMA history, and one of the few that make me emotional.
