The first rule of an interview is to never lose control. You never let the interviewee dictate his terms or pick up the mic. It's the ABC of journalism. If you do, you become a puppet and everyone will do it afterwards. Playing along with Mayhem would have been a complete joke at this point. Helwani is not a promotional tool to be used by fighter to promote their movie appearance. He's a MMA interviewer and Mayhem was invited as a fighter, certainly not as an actor. Ariel stood his ground and Mayhem lost it because he couldn't assume control of the interview.
Karyn Bryant, as likeable as she is, has that problem: she lets fighters dictate their terms and take control of the interview. It gives her lots of exclusive contents and long, uncontrolled interviews with fighters who normally don't talk much. Her relationships with Rampage and Kongo are all based on that. It's all sexual innuendo, "darkness" lame jokes and uncontrolled interviews. She lets them do as they please and that's why they like her and hate Helwani.
Compared to Bryant, Helwani is an alpha male! Sure, he gets instigating at times but he doesn't let fighters dictate their terms or take control of the interview. Guys like Tito, Rampage and Diaz can't take that. That's why they hate Helwani, he confronts them and doesn't give them control. They want praises and easy questions but they feel disrespected by hard questions.
Why am I still reading that Rampage hates Helwani? That is a bullshit lie, one that is spread by an alarming number of very misinformed posters.
