I own a business. My business partner and I are both big MMA fans. We toyed with the idea of putting our company logo on some fighter shorts, but quickly dropped it when we found out about the UFC demanding a bunch of money on top of what you'd pay the fighter.

True, but that's the point, the more popular and exciting fighters would generate the most cash. In this event BJ might not be everyone's choice. For most cards, I'd donate after the fight, so it would be a way to say 'thanks for the exciting fight'.

In the case of Penn, it would be a token of appreciation for the many hours of entertainment he has provided over the years. I still watch re-runs of his TUF season against Pulver. 'put up your hands if you don't want to be on team Pulver' is my favourite TUF moment

i sponsored evan tanner as part of team tanner for his fights with okami and grove. he didn't want to wear a bunch of logos of brands he didn't use or support. it ended up being just the gyms he trained at, a "team tanner - sponsored by me", and "believe in the power of one" on the shirts.
