The rule makes absolutely no sense AT ALL. Now we're hitting the point it's become a real problem.

You would think the entire point of the rule is to protect fighters from being hit with the point of the elbow. The reasons why are very obvious. Especially if it's ANYWHERE near the back of the head.

It shouldn't matter if it's 12/6 or has an angle on it.

What happened this morning was horrific, and not matter if the elbows Travis Brown has been landing are technically "legal", they are dangerous as fuck. The way both Gonzaga, and Barnett went down was scary. NOBODY else is throwing those elbows in MMA. Chael Sonnen went as far to say as that it's impossible to practice those in training because they are obviously so dangerous.

This IS a problem, and it would probably be a good idea to address it.

Dont't forger Hendricks vs GSP those were game changers.

I think we will see people exploit elbows more and more and then it will force a rule unification because 12-6 is dumb.

There has to be some movement to change that 12-6. Either make them legal or make all eblows have to be hand-to-chest in regards to their direction. The power difference of 1-7/11-5 as compared to 12-6 is indistinguishable.

Those I really don't frown upon so much because they were all to the side of the head at about a 90 degree angle. But still the point of the elbow hitting anywhere on the head or face is obviously a concern.

Man, this KO by Goodridge scared a lot of traditional martial artists from back in the day of getting into the Octagon. They realised it wasn't a dojo sparring session

yep, he would've been able to throw those elbows without any warning from the ref. Seems like only ceiling-to-floor(up/down), especially from top position, will be policed.
