Pettis was going to get an immediate title shot at Aldo with no FW fights and no belt. Why can't Aldo, who is a multiple time defending champion, get the immediate fight? If you don't want to see this fight, you're stupid.

Won't happen. UFC will sell this as champion vs champion. Besides, he can't take a tune up fight at LW and keep the FW division on hold.

Having the fight ASAP against Pettis would improve Aldo's chances dramatically on account of Pettis' injury. Pettis blew his knee on a leg kick and will likely be slower in the interim from it before he fully recovers, which can take a full year or two. I don't see how that projects him to match up well with Aldo, a speedy leg kicker, right now.

I think it's more so Pettis needs another fight at lightweight first before Aldo or he'll likely lose. Melendez wouldn't kick his injured knee with ferocity and has average speed. That's a much better match-up for Pettis coming off his injury. If the UFC cares about him at all, that's the match-up they'll make instead, or anybody else but Aldo. Then they'll make Aldo the subsequent fight if Pettis wins.

But if all UFC cares about Aldo's interests and making a marketable match in the interim, they'll sacrifice Pettis. His knee concern far outweighs Aldo's gassing concern, which is rather minor.

I think a very frustrated Showtime makes a mistake by round four and gets put away.
You have more basic confused with more technical, just like people who argued Cerrone would beat Pettis b4 that destruction.

Even the flashy knee of the cage Pettis set up by grabbing the hands of Cerrone and then right b4 he came underneath with a knee faked a superman punch so he'd bring his hands up to defend.

Against Bendo, Pettis set up every body kick he threw with a head punch fake.

Against Lauzon, he saw Lauzon was reaching out to catch his punches and then knocked him out with a head kick from the opening he created.

Nobody is more technical at striking than Pettis, thinks more about it, and has more functional athleticism. And on account of the latter two, it's silly to say you see no way in hell Pettis beats him, assuming he is the same fighter as b4.

I agree that he should get a fight before Pettis. I think Frankie should have as well when he moved down to FW, before he fought Aldo.

It's ridiculous how overrated Pettis has become around these parts.

Pettis had a tailor made road to the title by giving him opponents who don't have a wrestle-heavy style after he lost to Guida and he's just a bad stylistic matchup for Bendo who has horrible stand up.

Styles make fights and Pettis has a good style to match up against Aldo, but stop acting as if Aldo ain't on his level. Shit if anything, Aldo is above Pettis, and Pettis should be the one getting a warmup fight before fighting Aldo since he will have been out for quite some time by the time they finally do meet.

This fight would be very interesting. Pettis seems a little more dynamic with his striking arsenal, but Aldo is quick, powerful, and sticks to a handful of very well executed, basic Thai/Kickboxing combos.....

You aren't considering he is used to having a big size advantage over most FWs which he won't enjoy at LW. If he bulks up as the move up can allow him to do that could make it worst. He will have more of a gas tank from an easier weight cut, but may end up in situations where he will have to burn much more energy too.
Pettis isn't a huge LW himself
