If Barao loses the rematch, where does that leave him? Losing 2 fights to the champ sort of puts you at the back of the bus for a bit and maybe forever. I mean, TJ could certainly lose and if Barao wins a couple fights he could challenge the new champ, but still.

I'm sure Barao will be plenty motivated for this but I'm sure he'll be feeling the pressure of knowing that losing this fight will really derail his career, at least for a while.
Then again, Frankie lost two back to back title fights and was gifted an immediate 3rd title shot.

Doubt Barao would get the same treatment though

Yeah, I think Barao should have had to have at least two fights before getting the rematch. It wasn't close and I don't think Barao was a long enough reigning champ to warrant an immediate rematch like an Anderson or a GSP would have.

Yet it doesn't stop Randy Couture from getting title fight rematches

The ufc has painted themselves and tj in a corner because if tj loses by a controversial outcome, a third immediate rematch would be a very tough sell.

IMO......
Would just have to be promoted a bit harder:

"[yelling]THIS GUY IS A KILLER, HE ALREADY BEAT THE CHAMP AND WAS ON HIS PATH TO TAKING THE BELT FROM BARAO UNTIL AN INJURY SIDELINED HIM AND TJ ROBBED HIM OF WHAT HE AND OTHERS FEELS RIGHTFULLY BELONGS TO HIM![/yelling]

Current 177 will probably do like 85K buys, Assuncao would have probably done like 70K buys, not a big enough sales difference for it to be worth them backing themselves into the corner in the future with all this rematches are to be expected stuff.

I'm exaggerating, moron.

Cruz wasn't active for years, years that new fighters came and surpassed him, the division isn't even the same when he fought last time.

Bas never lost, he was forced to give up because of injuries, looks the same as Cruz to me, therefore Cain is a paper champ.

Ah, and Bas returned, in 2006, but not in the UFC. He should've had his belt back and fight in the UFC.

You logic is flawed.
