you should really show more respect. These sort of posts resort in people retaliating by putting Anderson's competition under the same scrutiny. So it is disrespectful to both.

First off, I don't think you can call any but maybe a few fighters a can on his record.
You say you have been watching since 94, but I have a hard time believing that when you don't even seem to know what a can is.

2ndly, who exactly was a can?
Fighters who you just don't know? are they cans?
Fighters that you just don't want to give credit for? are they cans?

A can is a something you crush to look good. In combat sports, a can is someone with a big name but that poses little risk so you can look good and pad your record fighting them.

Thus, before Fedor was champ, you can't count any of his resumé as cans throughout Rings as he was just getting the fights he could ( and a lot of those guys were not easy opponents). That was a time when you could barely gameplan for a fight, there was very little audio/visual material to break down a fight, observe and strategize with. These all add to an x factor of difficulty.

In Pride, fedor fought sometimes several times per night in a tournament format, thus anyone he fought was , by definition, not a can.
If you want to call someone like HMC a can...that's understandable, his record didn't establish him worthy, especially in todays context- But one thing to remember is that as HW champ of MMA back then, the MMA community was a little bit behind this sort of thing because there was still quite a bit of mystery surrounding which martial art was the most dominant. No one questions that now, but back then there was still a lot of questions about which fight style is the best.

When someone pointed out that this chubby little russian could beat up just about any one on the planet,, a lot of people that weren't into mma laughed that off. Some thought a guy like Kimbo was the baddest man on the planet. No one questions this as often anymore and that is thanks to MMA fighters fighting single discipline fighters to establish MMA as the best fighters on the planet. So you should be thanking guys like Fedor and not trashing them...they brought mma to the acceptance of the general public with fights like these.

And one last thing. A 7'2 monster with a solid K1 record is a high risk low reward in mma terms. So by that definition, once again. Not a can

Fedor fought his share of cans but crushed them accordingly.

Anderson fought japanese WW cans and got submitted by them in humiliating fashion.

On top of that Anderson fought cans in the UFC:

Irvin=CAN
Leites= CAN
Bonnar= CAN
Cote= CAN
Leben= CAN

At the end of the day anyone from Fedors and Andersons era has fought cans but Fedor never lost to cans and Anderson lost to cans twice.

Not necessarily but Id rather have some losses by submission and an exciting career with FINISH wins over Vitor, Hendo, Franklin, Griffin, and Marquardt than fighting with a condom for 5 years and not finishing a single fight against Koscheck and Den Ardy level competition.

Finish Hughes, BJ in domination from start to finish > the Maia/Leitis/Cote fights though.

We can do this all day.

Fair enough.

But Hughes was well past it when GSP smashed him and Penn is fighting at 145 now. Lets be real outside of those finishes GSP has been extremely boring.

Thought it was Fedor before the Weidman losses. Nothing has changed.

wtf?

won a UFC tournament, UFC HW title and Open weight PRIDE GP in 2000, he was also ranked #1 before he lost to Nog and that was in 2001 or 2002 IIRC
