I don't know that Diego was ever on the brink of elite. Even when he got his lightweight title shot (on the heels of two solid wins over two lightweight contenders), I don't know that he was even in the top seven or eight in the division. His last convincing win was more than three and a half years ago.
Diego is the man, but his best days are a few years behind him.
Lauzon has hinted at a return in August or September, and it's certainly a fight I wouldn't mind seeing.
