Assuncao/Cruz for Cruz's comeback?

Do people think this would be a good match to make?

My reasoning is that whilst Raph has a solid win streak his Dillashaw fight was VERY close. I had it just barely in Dillashaw's favour. Also he's not really well known having fought mostly on preliminary cards and in Brazil. A win over Cruz erases all doubt that he is the no.1 contender for the title and would be huge for him. It's a fight that could serve as a co-main event pretty much anywhere and give Assuncao the exposure he needs to be considered for a bantamweight shot.

For Cruz, it's a good fight against a top 5 opponent that would serve as a great reintroduction to Bantamweight and help us figure out where he's at division wise.

Neither fighter loses much as Assuncao will have lost to arguably the no.1 bantamweight in the world whilst Cruz himself is coming off a long layoff against a top tier fighter.

It's a win-win fight for the UFC in my opinion. I know some people will say that it's knocking off a contender for Barao but considering the rate at which were seeing FW and BW prospects appear compared to LHW and above that shouldn't be much of a concern to be honest.

Cruz will probably get an immediate shot.

Most likely. He wouldn't if the division wasn't so shallow but unfortunately it is. I'm a huge Cruz fan, but I won't believe it until he steps in that octagon that night.

I just hope he can return for at least one more fight. Injuries are killing his career.

I'd be down to see it. Before the (consecutive?) injury(s) it'd be easy to pick Cruz... But he's very reliant on movement. And the possibility that his injuries hinder him from being as mobile as before is definitely there. It'd really let us know just where he belongs in the division. It'd be a good number 1 contender fight.

Me as well, it's hard not to feel bad for the guy. I hope he can make a strong comeback and stay injury free from now on.

I fucks with this match-up but whether or not he will ever return to the cage at all is a concern at this point.

I didn't think much of that but a fight at featherweight with Edgar if he beats Penn again might be an option as after the last Edgar/Aldo fight Frankie's got a long way back to a title fight and a win over Barao would get him one straight away I feel and for Barao it would be a big name opponent. Kind of similar to the logic behind Anderson/Griffin. Barao might appreciate the exposure Frankie's name would give him as well as not having to cut as much weight.

Who knows what the division will look like when he eventually gets back.
