I think he should be a mainstream star, along the lines of Mayweather.

Aldo is amazing, but I will withhold final judgment until he faces Edgar and some other top-flight opponents. Consider the post-Aldo track record of Aldo's opponents in his title fights:
Mike Brown: 4-3 after losing to Aldo
Urijah Faber: 3-2 at Bantamweight after losing to Aldo
Manny Gamburyan: 1-2 after losing to Aldo
Mark Hominick: 0-3 after losing to Aldo
Kenny Florian: retired after losing to Aldo
Chad Mendes: 2-0 after losing to Aldo (against very weak competition)
The P4P talk is a little overeager given Aldo's slate of opponents to date. That said, I believe Aldo will win on Saturday, which would definitely put him in the P4P debate.

P4P in order
Aldo
GSP-strength of opponents to me puts him ahead of Silva, always(except for arguably Diaz) fights no1 contenders
Jones- will probably be 1 soon
Silva- needs bigger tests in my eyes to be #1 that everyone claims he is. He has done some mystic type stuff, but the Chael fights show that he is not totally dominant over everyone he faces

People use that fight as "proof" that Aldo will gas against Frankie. But apparently his 5 round fights against Florian and Faber are forgotten, because he didn't gas in those fights, and he made very talented fighters look pretty amateur.
But haters gonna hate.

That is still just a very vocal minority, and people that permanently hate on a fighter for something he did once out of all of his fights are just petty and ridiculous. He should have been deducted a point, and the fight still would have ended the same way it did.
Even despite that I still think of all the top 5 P4P fighters he's probably the most unanimously well liked.

aldo isn't really talked about alot tbh. compared to gsp, jones, anderson, cain, bendo he isn't marketed as much. alot of people are unsure about how good the lighter weight classes are(the casuals) and alot of dumb people but the line at 155 and don't want lower.

This thread doesn't make any sense at all. Doesn't Aldo get respect all the time on Sherdog, even though he's had a couple of lackluster performances?
He'll get my respect if he dominates Frankie Edgar. I'm not sold on Aldo just yet, but if he wins against Edgar there's no doubt that he truly is the real deal. Really rooting for Edgar though as I think Aldo might be a bit overrated.

well he IS #2 or #3 p4p after anderson and jones, so that should get some respect.

"Aldo can't handle Edgar's pace" or "Edgar can't handle Aldo's kicks" is all speculative. What isn't speculative is their levels of competition up to this point. Edgar is WAY more proven.

Yeah, but against that better competition Frankie was knocked silly, and lost some times. All Aldo has done is dominate everyone.

The only common thread is Kenny Florian, if we REALLY want to speculate. Penn brutalized Kenny way worse than Aldo did and Frankie is 2-0 against Penn.
