Only seen it in shallow divisions really, except for Frankie who got it because he was arguably robbed his LW title and was the biggest name for Aldo (still don't think he should have got it).

The UFC dictates their opponent, including whether that will be the champion/a highly ranked contender or not.

It's a business. Put together fights that the fans will pay for. If fighters aren't exciting they won't be given the same opportunities as others. Dollars will always trump deserving fighters

In some cases yes but in thin divs why wouldnt they?

Like Rumble, LHW is thin, you have Jones, Gus and DC. So why would you do Rumble vs Gus or Rumble vs Glover and risk Rumble losing for a guy in Glover who just lost a title fight?

Its building some guys up to get title shots and big fights which is what fans want isnt it?

If they wanted him as champ that bad, they would've given him the shot after he beat Woodley.

I don't get it... isn't this how title shots generally operate now?

The only time they don't is for injury replacements or if a fighter has cleaned out his division.

The champ pretty much always at least fights a top 5 guy, and will get the highest ranked guy based on availability, injuries, already booked fights etc.

Exactly. They want Rory as champ so bad then why hasnt he gotten a title shot? He just fought Lawler, Tyron and now Tarec.

3 top WW. If he wins his next fight he will likely get hendricks/Lawler winner but he will have earned it.

You mean pushing marketable fighters to the front of the pack and giving none marketable fighters stylistically challenging matches the stack the odds against them? That doesn't sound like Zuffa.
