I seem to recall people being very high on the guy after the Judah loss and the Corley KO got a lot of attention.
No one cared for Alexander, that much I'm sure of.

I always root against Alexander and Matthyse won me over in that fight, I like Matthyse but I think people are falling for his very aesthetic looking record, I can make a case for Matthuse winning the Alexander fight but the Judah fight was a fair decision
Point is, Matthyse has choked twice against the top 5 and hasnt done anything significant other than stopping smaller fighters although it was nice to see how he exposed Ajose

Came up short/Lost
I know I used the wrong term considering he was still in the fight until the fiinal bell whereas Judah and Alexander where considerably faded

Yea can someone tell me why everyone seems to be all over Matthyse's nuts??? He's good no doubt but it's like people think he's the 2nd coming to 80's Tyson or something. Overrated

He's arguably the most exciting fighter in one of boxings most loaded weight classes. His only two losses are two controversial split decisions. He's a brick shithouse of a fighter and will fight anybody. No way in hell he's overrated.

He's been exciting against overmatched opponents. Olusegun was a good win/fight.

He seems like a slower version of Maidana to me...Not anywhere near as impressive as people seem to think...and nothing outstanding about his skill set at all except for his power which could be neutralized by a smart boxer.
I think even Khan would beat him. If Khan can beat Maidana he can beat Matthyse imo
And while he's an aggressive fighter...he doesn't seem that aggressive to me...Not like Rios and less than Maidana to imo.

He's obviously overrated. The hype came out of nowhere when people realized he had a big punch. Now he is the best thing since sliced bread, despite losing to Judah, who Khan dispatched of easily.
Mattyhse may be a good fighter, but he is the definition of hype at the moment.

I've been on the Matthysse bandwagon since his fight with Judah a couple years ago. I always gravitate toward the pure boxers who can lead you around the ring w/o getting hit and the guys who never stop putting the pressure on, no defense just bring it everytime out.
Matthysse is the latter, also a lot of people including myself think he will give any guy at 140 a run for their money and I don't see how that's a crazy opinion to have. He definitely hasn't been outclassed yet, robbed against Devon and was in a close fight with Zab that a lot of people think he won as well. Brutally beat down Soto and Ajose who are both good fighters who never took beating like that to date. One of four guys to ko Chop Chop, dropped Devon and Zab. Great chin and power always comes to fight, endearing qualities in fighter not to mention he makes the most of them.
No reason to think that he can't hang with the elite at 140 and even beat most of them. Just b/c he's one dimensional doesn't mean he's not legit. Reason people are high on the guy right now is b/c there's not much of a reason to be low on him. We'll see how he looks against Lamont though, I think he puts the critics to rest but time will tell.
