Bullshit decision. I think Fitch is pretty entertaining especially when he gets a fight where his strength don't exactly match up with his opposition. He's fight with Erick Silva was one of the most entertaining on the card and his fight with Maia wasn't anything special but hell, he went 3 rounds with one of the best BJJ guys around with Maia prodominately trying to land submissions...I don't think there's anyone else in the division that's going to be able to do that. I think he had turned a new page in being more aggressive and going for finishing but we never got to see it.

Well that possibility just ended. Its unfortunate because even though I dislike these fights I would love see which one of them would win the battle of the Lay and Prayers

Just because some of the hardcore fans feel a loyalty to Fitch doesn't mean he is good for the sport.

Why it makes complete sense that Fitch got cut

I don't really post here much anymore, much less start threads, but this is a subject I felt thread worthy (even though it's the 1,000,000th thread on the subject as some posters will enthusiastically point out). I'll try to make this short as possible to avoid the TLFWIs:

Let me make an analogy to explain this: I've been playing guitar for 12 years. I know the instrument, I know the technique and I know musical theory. I can sit for hours and watch some guy just shred and think it's the most amazing thing ever. Other people on the other hand, are going to get tired of this after about 30 seconds because all they see is some guy playing really fast without any real musical context (in the absence of at least drums and a bass). But those same people think that Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page are two of the best guitar players of all time (they're not, not even close) and pay $100 to see a shitty generic band like Nickleback or Theory of a Dead Man who wrote all their songs in E minor (the easiest scale for guitar by far).

The problem is, that way more people fall into the latter category than the former, which is why most popular music sucks balls (from a music theory standpoint anyway). The music business exists to make money and guys like me aren't going to fill Madison Square Garden to see a hologram of Lenny Breau play artificial harmonics. You can however fill Madison Square Garden by putting Justin Bieber on a stage and have him hop around for 2 hours.

The same principle applies to MMA. It's nice that we're all hardcore fans and appreciate the technical aspects groundgame and being able to control your opponent. The majority of fans however don't give a shit about some guy who apparently does little more than just drag his opponent to the ground and keep him there. They want to see guys get knocked out, get their limbs broken or if nothing else get severely bloodied up.

Like it or not, the UFC is a business - it exists to make money, not please MMA aficionados which is apparently what 90% of Sherdog consists of. Zuffa needs to sell tickets and PPVs and they need to expand and that means reaching more and more casual fans and mainstream viewers. Fitch doesn't really fit into that strategy and that's why he needed to go. Makes complete sense from not only a business perspective, but also for the sake of advancing the sport more into the mainstream.

So when you're bitching about Dana and Zuffa cutting guys like Fitch, you're anger is actually misdirected. They're only responding to consumer demand. Who you should be getting mad at is the hordes of casual fans who don't understand the sport like you do. But they're in the majority and they're spending money and they're not going to shell out hard earned cash to see a guy like Fitch headline a PPV.

You could have at least written "TLFWI" to make me feel nostalgic.

I agree with the cut but it's ironic that you are for Fitch getting cut and at the same time boring us all with this long thread.

Yes. He wasn't winning under the new scoring criteria and it's not like he beat a bunch of murderers to get his record. The UFC has been feeding him great, winnable match-ups ever since the GSP loss probably hoping he'd evolve, it just never happened. The Maia fight was the straw that broke the camel's back because he's not even the best Fitcher anymore.

14-3 in the UFC, and only lost to top guys. What a joke.
I'm not going to go back and check his record, but he had a draw in there at one point.
