From the entry form:
"Saturday will feature the bench only competition at 9:30am, men’s middleweight classes (181, 198, 220) at 11:30am and the men’s heavyweight classes (242, 275, SHW) at 3pm.
Sunday will feature the women’s classes at 10am and the men’s lightweight (up to 165) classes at 1pm.
For the women full power, lightweights are up to 148 and heavyweights are 148+."

RUM is a big unsanctioned meet that brings powerlifters from different federations together, and some federations don't like that. In particular, the USAPL doesn't like its members competing in other federations, and they have threatened to ban anyone who competes in RUM from USAPL events. I don't know much more than that--it's all stupid, petty fed politics.
I like Iowa, and I suppose they take care of their own, though I can only speak for graduate students and not for faculty. We get taken care of primarily because we have a strong union, not because the university cares about us. And this university's recognized for its creative writing program; their graduate program is the best in the country, and their undergrad program is one of the best. It's a designated "city of literature" with 25 Pulitzer-Prize winners among graduates and faculty since 1955.

Is there a reason why certain PL fed's do a 24 hour weigh in?
Also +1 on Legio's politics question

I imagine it's just to give lifters an advantage. Additionally, I suppose the assumption is that lifters might want to cut weight if they're close to a weight class, so the full day gives them time to recover and not bomb out. But you're right--there's not nearly as pressing a need for 24-hour weigh-ins as a safety protocol in powerlifting.

No, I have nothing to do with athletics here beyond the powerlifting team; I'm in the Film Studies department. I don't know how much he's cutting, only that it's a lot, and that he's meticulous with his weight cut and does it properly, but it's still been hard on him.
