Gold!

One day he'll be recording that UFC Primetime... Just be sure that he mentions it as the moment he learned how to punch

And what a coach, uh?! Like "wow, now you're punching hard, can you teach me that?"

And that's a guy who deal with professionals... I mean, it's not like he's an average Joe who teaches muitai in his backyard someplace in the favela.

Rear hand punches originate from the rear foot.

Jaja! I was telling Merqui today that we really need to take care of Michael. I wasn't sure Merqui really understood what he's going through. He WAS signed to Bellator for 2 bouts. He was an inch away from the big-time. Merqui knows what that's like, and to lose it. So I was telling him this is Michael's second chance, so I want us to really give him everything he could need to succeed.

By rear foot, do you mean that you push or drive off the rear foot in the direction of the punch?

What I see taught more often is either pivoting with the rear foot as you punch which doesn't really feel like i'm generating that much more power then if it was stationary. The other I see taught is actually stepping with the foot. So let's say your rear foot toes are pointing away from your opponent and then as you punch you take a slight forward step with the rear foot and now the toes are pointing at your opponent. Both ways feel comfortable executing but can't quite feel the difference in power they generate. Hope you understand what I mean.

I saw that documentary about Merqui's bout with Roy Jones and his fall from the big stage. It'd be nice if he let that motivate him to give Michael the attention he deserves after getting a similar tough break.

Here's the video for anyone who doesn't know Merqui's story.

All I mean is your weight should be on the rear foot at the start of the punch. It can stay there through the duration of the punch as well.

??? no weight transfer?? Thought it transfered diagonally downward to the front foot starting from the rear foot... How can it stay on the rear foot??

It only moves to the front foot long enough for you to push yourself back onto the back foot. When done correctly, that's maybe a second, likely less. But there is a way to throw the rear hand from the rear foot without the weight moving. And after much exploration, I'm pretty positive that's THE hardest version of the punch. There's a slight downward movement due to the bend of the knees. But it's very very subtle.

I feel like this is how Roger Mayweather punches. His weight barely seems to move at all when he throws his right hand, but you can tell he's got some dynamite in that punch.

Don't know if you would know this Sinister, but how is Michael as a Muay Thai trainer? I noticed he is now teaching MT 3 days a week at Wand's.

Nah I wouldn't know. I've not visited that Gym yet. Though I'm hoping he's taking some of the boxing principals he's learning and applying them to the punching in his MT.
