Weight loss dilemma / family influence help?
Ok I'll cut this short:
I come from a family of 4. My dad, a doctor is always at work, but runs 3 km a day at the age of 55. My parents don't really see eye to eye on most things. My mom is about 100lbs overweight.
I stand 6'1 265 fat. I've lost about 75 lbs before but gained it back due to study/army commitments. My dad never really has time for me, and my mom is perfectly fine with my size, she encourages me to eat cheesecake/sweet stuff, despite me taking cholesterol and depression pills.
She says she'd rather have a fat son enjoy his life than a slim one trying to lose weight and being too strict about nutrition. Wen I mentioned fruits as having too much fructose, she tells me how fruits are healthy and clean up the fat?? I don't see how that ties in with nutrition. She's also told me that she's lost a bunch of weight before and knows how to lose weight correctly.
I know she's my mom: but it's so hard to lose weight around here. I got warded for beating someone up in a hospital, and instead of outpatient treatment(trusting her as my mother), she caged me up in the hospital for 2 weeks where I gained back 10 kg of 15 kg I lost due to food and medication.
I'm pretty much sick of my parents not getting along and my mom thinking its ok to be fat, and constantly handing me sweets and white flour laden foods to my dismay after a hard day of cardio or being at the gym.
I've lost 5 kg from the disaster of weight gain from hospital admission.
My current diet is this:
Breakfast - oatmeal, cocoa and wheat bread 1 slice
Lunch - meal with reduced carbs and more veggies
Snack - almonds and a tuna wrap
Dinner - same as lunch
Before sleep - crackers and a banana with 100 ml milk
I follow reduced carbs and a lower calorie intake for my weight loss.
I so cardio 6 days a week and hit the weights 3 days a week.
My goal is to compete in a bodybuilding competition one day but I'm taking it one step at a time.
I don't drink, smoke nor do I party. My only vice is fast food. I live in Singapore where it's globalising quick so macs and Burger King are everywhere.
Questions:
1. How do I talk to my mom about this?
2. How is my diet and what alterations should I make to it? I've lost weight off strictly calories in vs out methods.
Thanks.

1. I don't know how old you are, but the blunt answer is you don't. No one in my immediate family shares my interests in healthy diet/exercise. They think I'm crazy for training as much as I do and how I beat the hell out of my body and they constantly tell me I'm too skinny (I'm 6'1 185ish). I'm the only one that isn't at least 40lbs overweight. It's gotten to the point where they accept it makes me happy, or that they can't win.
2. From what you posted, I would recommend higher protein, higher fat, lower carb. The only specific foods you mentioned (oatmeal, banana, wheat bread) are all carb-based. Carb's aren't the devil, but they aren't the best way to lose weight, either.
Good luck on your quest.

Thanks and yeah I know how you feel on family talking about u being too dedicated to your weight loss etc. my mom often complains about how I eat too little or why I don't eat this or that. I guess I'm done victimizing myself and need to take responsibility for my own health.
I'll try eating a salad for dinner next time round, to curt the weight off. I might get a tuna/chicken sandwich for lunch and a chicken salad for dinner to cut out the carbs. I'll look for protein sources. But breakfast is carb based and oatmeal is consistently listed as the best sources of food for weight loss.

That is a terrible diet with way to many carbs, cut way back on the carbs and eat more meat/veggies as a start.
Also how old are you? If you are younger than 18 your dad as a docter should be well aware of how bad your situation is if you are taking cholesterol pills below age 18, if your 18 or above its time to MOVE THE FUCK OUT!!!

ok diet fairly poor , not a great deal of protien or protien sourced foods , also sounds like your making excuses for being fat , that your mum is overweight and encouraging you to be , aswell as stating that singapore has lots of fast foods places , which is the same in every developed country .
no one I have ever lived with has encouraged me or showed any interest in weight training and the lifestyle that goes with it but you if thats your choice then live that life , some people cant be educated on this and will tell you your doing harm to yourself wether its healthy or not , I often wonder if this is frustration at there own failures and lack of will power. Just explain to her your making some lifestyle changes and you want to get into decent shape and point out that living the fat life has give you depression and high cholesterol.

Where is the protein in your diet? A little bit of tuna? Increase your protein...I would say aim for at least 125-130 grams a day. Keep your calories below 2,000. You will drop fat while retaining muscle at a steady rate if you just stick to that amount of protein and calories.
I would say try to include some veggies in there too, but if you just craft a diet that has that amount of calories and protein and is something you can stick to for the long term it will work.

I come from a big family also.
Lead by example, I started running ~ 5 miles/day, eating healthy, working out and starting looking in great shape. My family have seen the transformation and it has now become a family lifestyle.
My brother has lost a ton of weight as has my mother who had a similar mentality to yours ( she felt that since she's already married w/ kids she didn't need to keep fit)
Revolutionize your household! haha

Yeah, if your mom isn't going to supportive just do things on your own. I know it can be hard to be on a diet when other people are eating garbage that you are craving, but just stand strong and eventually your mom will figure it out. You should just sit down and tell your mom that this is what you want to do and she should be supportive.

Thanks guys. This is my new diet:
Breakfast - oatmeal, cocoa, wheat bread 1 slice
Lunch - veggies and reduced carbs meal
Snack - tuna sandwich
Dinner - chicken salad
That is all that I am having. As for mom I think I was a little pissed off when I wrote that, but I love my mother dearly and would never go against what she says or does.
I am moving out, but I fucked up first time I tried. I couldn't cook or clean and my room was a mess. I also never lived alone before and couldn't cope but am trying again.
Hopefully it'll work out this time.
