If I remember correctly the bout had some huge legal issues going in... such as whether if they punched each other they'd be arrested. Hence the fact it turned into a wrestling match.
The first bout wasn't bad... short and ended with a Shamrock guillotine.

Indeed. 30 minutes of Shamrock lying on top of Gracie landing the odd headbutt and one punch when they were stood up at the start of over-time does not a good fight make

Agreed again. Severn admits that to this day he struggles with the concept of really punching people (although ironically he's happy to knee them) and because of that he just pancaked Royce for 17 minutes.

I disagree with the Severn vs Gracie match...
it was a battle of wills, fortitude and stamina...
but the whole time I was screaming, " WHY DON'T YOU FUCKING PUNCH HIM DAN!!!?"
It wasn't until UFC V did Dan Severn actually learn the art of punching.

Oh, I agree entirely.
It was a battle of will, fortitude and stamina for me to be to sit through it...

I may be mistaken but wasn't there something about local authorities stepping in and saying they'd be arrested if they punched or some weird thing like that?

However, the Main event was over shadowed by Keith Hackney castrating Joe Son, and Severn suplexing that small muay thai guy on his head several times...
Good UFC in my opinion.

It was this fight actually, where closed fist strikes were illegal.

I found and now absolutely love boxing while training in Muay Thai, I'm moving away slowly from training Muay Thai and focusing on the sweet science.
I love all combat sports though, but boxing is always the absolute favorite.

Anthony "Mad Dog" Macias. He actually had a pretty solid career as a journeyman in MMA and even managed to pick up a win over Shonie Carter and beat fellow journeyman Brian Gassaway. He can also say he faced (and lost) against Saku, Allan Goes, Vladimir Matyushenko (x2), Doerkson, Neer, Marcus Hicks and Mitsuoka.
However he's most infamous bout was his appearance at UFC 6 where he was paid by Taktarov's management team (apparently without Taktarov's knowledge) to throw his fight so Taktorov would be fresh to face Tank (who was already considered a monster).

Tank vs Oleg is one of the most over looked MMA fights of all time...I thought that was a great fight, considering how exhausted both were.
