Histamine Rundown

Can someone give me the dl on this chemical and why its important, what happens when you get too much, etc. I have food allergies and I suspect this neurotransmitter? has played a large role in my life, and it is likely in excess in my body.
I began to notice that when I take zyrtec i feel night and day better. Is it viable to take antihistamines long term or are there better ways to reduce histamine in the body?

I don't know man, but I know this. Don't abuse the antihistimine. They say "safe at reccomended doses" but I don't necessarily believe that. It might be reasonably safe at reccomended doses, but it's definately having an effect on your body. One that you might not want long term.

However I'm biased. I abused the hell out of them and paid the consequences.

They have a slightly negative impact on calorie partitioning, but nothing else that I know of. Might be a good question for your doctor.

Yea i agree. I am supposed to get a complete food allergy panel, but i have to go off zyrtec for 3 days to do that and right now I need all my wits with me as I am busy. I will do it later. I read something about methionine and calcium getting rid of histamine naturally. Histamine has some positive affects, but for some of us that have allergies, etc. we may be better with antihistamines. Not a definitive opinion however.

This.

Your question is best suited for a medical professional, not a bunch of forum monkeys regardless of our experience, education, and knowledge.

If you have food allergies, you should still avoid those foods even with zyrtec. Zyrtec is a good anti-histamine and I have been on it for years, but a lot of people experience some pretty intense itching on it when going off it after being on it for a while. I have taken allergy pills everyday for more than a decade. It's common and safe. You should see an allergist though and get tested.

Vitamin C is an antihistamine.

How did you abuse antihistamines, and why? To what end?
