Article on FILA, the IOC and Olympic Wrestling's future
By our Wrestling writer Mike Riordan, a former Division I college wrestler and current high school coach.
It'll sound like obvious bias, but it's a good read.

I could see wrestling being added back but only with freestyle. I watched Greco at the london games and it was honestly the worst, most boring grappling style I have ever seen in my life, it was completely unwatchable

There were murmurs of Greco getting axed right after the event finished. It also has no connection to the ancient games other than name, it was based off a French backhold style that someone on the Olympic committee opted for inclusion originally.

I almost fell asleep watching Greco during the last Olympics. Freestyle is faster paced and has fewer weird rules, so I'd rather watch that.

I agree that it would make sense to only keep freestyle, though I feel sorry for my male countrymen who practice Greco exclusively. (Freestyle is only for women here.)

that's weird, what is the reasoning for that? is grabbing legs considered for sissies only?

They already whittled it down from 10 to 7. I think dropping Greco is the biggest thing FILA can do outside of a fat bribe to get wrestling back in the games.

There are more countries that compete in greco than freestyle, and there are more international wrestlers that do greco compared to any other style.
