Do you still want a belt in other martial arts?
I been practicing BJJ for 4 years now. And I do want my purple belt, my brown and my black.
When I started BJJ it was after my athletic career in baseball ended and I wanted to go back to martial arts that I started when i was kid but stopped training after I got into team sports.
I worked hard to get to advance levels in white and got my blue. Even took a demotion once but I still worked to get my blue belt in BJJ. I wanted to learn BJJ and it is my base. I had done tae kwon do and Kung Fu as a little kid but it didn't make me as fulfilled as doing BJJ. To me it was the most important martial art I practiced.
A couple years back I started training freestyle wrestling (no belt system) to help with my grappling. 4 months ago I started training Judo to complement my BJJ and wrestling training.
During class on Friday my instructor asked me if I wanted to test soon. I said sure he gave me the date but I cannot making as I am travelling he then said well find when you can. He never liked that I did BJJ on the side or wrestling but he didnt care at let me train. He asked me do I even want to the next belt?
I started Judo just to get better at my stand up. I never really thought about testing or looking for a judo blackbelt. I just didnt want to be a guard jumper all the time and feel comfortable on my feet. But I found myself asking do I still want a belt in Judo? I want to advance in Judo to a level where I have a killer stand up game and even take down judo blackbelts, but I dont mind wearing a white belt doing it.
Maybe because for me Judo was just compliment to BJJ and I believe being well rounded martial artist. (I also practice muay thai and sambo). But BJJ is my main martial art is the one I do 4-5 times a week, wrestling 2x week and Judo 2x week.
I do care about getting a blackbelt in BJJ, but I found myself not caring as much if I get Judo blacbelt, muay thai status etc.
I have complete respect for guys with Judo blackbelts or pretty much any blackbelt in any martial art.
What do you guys think do you guys care about getting another blackbelt? Maybe from some of the MMA guys do you care for that blackbelt in the variety of arts you practice?
I never thought about testing for a Judo belt so when my instructor brought it up I was a bit off guard because I never expected a formal test.

Particularly in arts that do a lot of competitons, advancing in rank puts you in more advanced divisions. The tougher competition will make you a better competitor, so I'd say there's a good practical reason to accept or pursue your next belt.

I have a blue in BJJ, and a green in Judo, I want to have my black in both eventually.
If I'm ever able to teach, I would like to have one curriculum that hands out belts in both arts. I would run them in a more Judo-like manner though, as I do believe that some BJJ clubs are too lenient when it comes to people fucking around once class starts.

Bjj is the only belted martial art I train. Muay Thai has no belts. I mean, if I trained judo and I earned a belt I would accept it. It's all about training and getting better. If you really go twice a week pure judo for the next year, you logically would progress in the belts. Note I don't know much about judo.

There are some systems that give belts out in Muay Thai, just so ya know. (and yes, I know traditionally, muay Thai has no ranking system)
Me personally, I"ve been doing BJJ a bit over 3 years and hope to have my Purple around mid-time this year. I train 4-7 times a week. And once I get my Black belt in BJJ (eventually lol) I want to start taking Judo to get a black belt in that. I'm not sure of any other Belt ranking martial arts that I"d like to go after, after that though.... Does San Shou have rankings like traditional Kung-fu? lol

Absolutely. I want to get my black belt in jiu-jitsu and judo. Why stop at one? The more I practice both arts the more I feel like they are the same thing sometimes.

I have a few, Judo and BJJ are the only ones that mean anything to me. Definitely rank up in Judo though, you'll get better training partners, your teachers will show you more, and you'll fight better competition in shiai.

Part of the reason I'm not training Judo any more is that I have no interest in the way the BJA gradings up to brown belt work these days.
P.S. So no, I don't really want a belt in anything else.

Does the new rules about leg grab in Judo and knee reaping in BJJ affect the value of the belt to you? I mean, new BB will be better for sport but wont be well rounded like in the past.
BTW, I also want the Sherdog BB .
