Why do people give Buchecha credit for ''beating'' Roger at Metamoris?
A little late but whatever.
I seem to remember that Buchecha was praised a lot for that performance which I dont get. Roger was badly ill leading up to that fight and really shouldnt have competed but he did anyway and still easily held his own against Buchecha, even passing his guard.
Buchecha has skills no doubt and is still young but im not too impressed. Rodolfo should have beat him, same for Leo Nog in their final. They made horrible mistakes in their matches and Buchecha is good at capitalizing on mistakes, thats about it. He's entertaining to watch but extremely reckless, even Kron gave him a good fight last year. I dont really get the hype with this guy.

The fact is Buchecha still won his weight division and the absolute in 2012.
Even though, he should've lost to Leo and Rodolfo in the worlds, he didn't. Champions capitalize on their opponents mistakes. I think he also represents the new breed of BJJ players coming up the ranks: The super well rounded players with crazy cardio to keep you on your heels.
As far as the Roger match, it's hard to judge how ill Roger really was. Buchecha was able to use his athleticism to dominate Roger throughout the match, and almost finished him with the armbar at the end.
Even though I'm a huge Rodolfo and Roger fan, it's hard to discredit Buchecha's unorthodox, and well rounded style.

Youre totaly right TS. Buchache hype train will be derailed 2013!
I think if I was a purple belt instead of a blue belt and I weighted another 20 pound i could be able to beat him right now.
Not impressed at all with his performance.

If that's what you want to call it.. He certainly appears to have been eating his horse meat.
I don't think illness had that much to do with it. Roger has been ignoring BJJ to learn some striking for his MMA career for a few years now. Buchecha trains BJJ exclusively and still couldn't sub him in 20 minutes. So.. who is giving this credit?
I'm pretty sure it was a draw. And I'm pretty sure Roger hasn't been subbed (and thus, truly beaten) since blue belt.

^^^ To be fair, that middle gif is only a near sweep, and Buchecha ends up in turtle.
But you could say he has.... mad sweeps?

Is this a troll post?
Buchecha murked everyone at Brown Belt, got his black belt and has had consistently great showings in all the majors, as well as whatever he competes in down in Brazil.
What does it mean that Rodolfo should have beat Buchecha? He narrowly escaped a deeeep kneebar, got points for a pass that he shouldn't have, and then got double legged when it counted. It was a phenomenal match, but you can't take away what Buchecha did because you don't 'get the hype.' That kid has a very balanced game, goes for the submission, is insanely coachable, and is tough as hell. What isn't to like about him?

It was apparent who was the faster, stronger, better grappler was that day.
If Roger goes back to the gi full time, I would lay a bet on him.

Listen, it goes something like this....... If you compete you compete and if you loose the other guy gets credit for beating you. If you compete you are deciding personally that you are healthy enough to be in there competing and believe you are healthy enough to win. If you don't win, the guy who beats you gets credit.
