It really all depends on booking. Wade, Skip and Otunga had no star power but where booked like monsters.
D-von would work better as leader if he wrestled less and just directed traffic like NWO Hogan.

He was also going to be the lead in First Blood but he stepped aside for Sly. Luckily Hogan trained Sly for the role by recounting his memories of Nam with Jesse Ventura and the SEAL team. Just don't ask Jesse, he's still jealous of Hogan's Silver Star.
