That's nice. Some people get hurt/injured way more than other people, you do realise this. That is a FIRST in a retort.
Secondly, who is anyone to say to anyone else that if you do not pay bagfuls of money to a greedy, corrupt, evil industry (profit insurance) that one should not train? Do you work for Humana or something? Maybe someone ON PRINCIPLE would decide to self-insure. What's it to you?
Thirdly, people that get injured constantly should really look into another hobby/business, but I am not the kind to declare to someone else what they should do (besides cops, when they shoot innocent unarmed human beings ... well they should NOT do that), although I have always internally wondered why so many seemingly fragile hobbyists continue to train after suffering serious injury after serious injury, especially since they train for 'health' reasons. Really puzzling. - E

I always drain my ears myself. I have some alcohol swabs, get thin, diabetic needles from Walgreens, and just drain it. Ice afterwards. Then gets some tissue and a clothesline clip and leave it for a while.

1) I was responding to his statement that grappling is safe if you don't do judo or leg locks. It's not safe, there is still a risk of injury. Sure, some get hurt more often than others, but his relative lack of injuries doesn't mean he's magically immune to getting hurt. I went my first 7 months without even a minor injury, but if you train long enough something is going to happen eventually.
2) One significant injury without insurance can cost thousands. If you can't afford insurance, you're taking a very big risk by participating in any sport. I watched a girl I know locally suffer a spiral fracture in her leg doing roller derby. She didn't have insurance. We did fundraisers to help her, but she still lost her house, her car, and ruined her credit due to the medical bills. I see nothing wrong with warning someone about that.
Your anti-insurance rant is great if you're protesting capitalist pig-dogs at an Occupy event, but it's pretty ignorant to pretend that having insurance isn't a good idea when you train in a sport where people often get hurt and need medical care.
3) I wouldn't consider myself fragile, nor would I consider what I listed as "serious injury after serious injury". I'm 36 years old, and I've accepted that if I want to try keeping up with 20 year olds it's going to result in some injuries. I train because I love jiu-jitsu, and giving it up is less appealing to me than dealing with injuries from time to time.
