Didn't see it.

Unfortunately I no longer watch A LOT of fighting. I'm no longer really a fan being as I've begun putting more time into instructing. When I watch fighting now it's nerve-racking because all I see is shit I don't like.

However I'm now interested to see it since it was mentioned in this thread.

The story of the fight was that Overeem had a false sense of security, but a different one than in Jimmy's case. Alistair's hands were low throughout the bout (Spoilers if, somehow, you're on Sherdog but don't know the outcome) and his chin was just hanging in the open. Instead of feeling that his gloves would protect him, Overeem clearly felt that Bigfoot couldn't hurt him. And he got liquified by a series of heavy punches at the start of the third, probably because he didn't expect Bigfoot to outclass him in any way.

Overeem had a false sense of security and so ignored his fundamentals. In any case, Overeem's a classic abuser of the "double forearm guard" from his K-1 days, so he relates on that level as well.

It's sad, but the guy knew what he was getting into. Boxing, MMA, kickboxing and any other combat sport will always have the risk of injury, short term or otherwise.

That fight is painful to watch, he just keeps walking his head into harms way, the footage of the doc interviewing him is also pretty challenging. An engaging story, well told.

Interestingly , nobody mentions where his opponent's hands were.

In the sequence leading up to the KO, Overeem stood in the pocket with his back to the fence and used head movement exclusively to avoid Silva's punches. However, he changed neither the distance nor angle while doing so. It also looked like he ducked too much to the right and lost sight of Silva. Silva's center line was lined up with Overeem while Overeem was pointed slightly away,and Silva was in perfect range.

Here's a pic that i think is the shot that stunned Overeem and lead to the pinata time;

I thought having his hands low was fine because he was able to lean back when Silva punched and ride the arm coming back. But, for whatever reason, he got too close and maybe got mentally pinned against the fence.

Calvin was pretty dynamic as a fighter even though he wasn't very athletic. Sometimes he carried his hands high, sometimes low. This fight isn't so much the story of Calvin Brock, it was a quick KO. What does that say? Often times it leaves more questions about a prospect than answers.

If we want to analyze something about Calvin, it really should be where his weight is in his stance. Jimmy threw jabs, and doubled-up when one didn't land. Still nothing troubled Calvin because he was in very good control of distance. His weight being in his right hip as opposed to the left (where Jimmy's was) has A LOT to do with that.

Overeem looked a little tired when bigfoot hurt him with the uppercut and head kick. He mounted a haphazard offence in return but Silva was pouring it on.

daamn its scary that getting punched can leave you like that... but being a heavyweight probably had alot to do with it, its ten times worse since you get hit by bombs all day...

and overeems sole defense (hands up shell) sucks for mma since shots can pass thru

It's not really worse for heavyweights. Head trauma is head trauma, and it depends a lot on genetics, skull structure, lifestyle, lots of different things. I think what did Jimmy in was that his sparring didn't look much different than his fighting half the time. Not that he was getting knocked out in sparring, but he took hits, a lot. People would want him for sparring BECAUSE he was "durable."
