The 2 punch combo...

My question on this and probably need insight from people who actually box...but wouldn't you agree that it's embarrassing (maybe poor choice of words) or at least amature for not only boxers but any MMA fighters to be knocked out by a simple left-right or right-left combo?

I was looking at the Hendricks vs Kampman fight....it wasn't that Hendricks was the flash or anything and the combo looked easy enough to block (if you had any training in boxing.) Is it that Kampman has terrible boxing or is something I'm missing?

Rampage Vs Glover...counter to a left hook. You knew everytime he was gonna throw it and of course Glover didn't mess with that shit but he did get caught I think once with that combo. I mean for Glover and to know Rampage always does that shouldn't it be kind sad he would get hit (even though it was once)

I'm not trying to bash any fighters or anything but these people who throw the same combos or come in with two punches and KO people. I just feel that either more MMA fighters have poorer than I realized standup or there is just certain combos that are impossible to avoid even if you know they are coming.

Smaller gloves+threat of kicks/takedowns/elbows/knees=different game than boxing.

Plus those smaller gloves slip through defense better than the bigger ones...Harder to defend against.

If your timing is good you don't even need two punches.

Kampman being orthodox made several mistakes. He backed straight up was the first one. And it wasn't a 1-2 it was a 3-2. This was significant for a couple of reasons. One it tends to open up the defender down the middle for the following shot, which it did, two it allowed Hendricks to get his lead foot outside of Kampman which then gave him a shorter distance and a better angle for his southpaw rear straight to come up the middle unopposed. Plus the angle meant it was less likely there would be any significant counter coming back. And lastly that hook made him more likely to back straight up rather than circle away from the power hand because it cut off his outside track. He could have gone under it or inside but he was already going backwards and it since he had a more upright stance harder for him to get low enough in time.

It was a lot more than a simple 1-2

Thanks. I made this after looking at the Kampman gif. Wondering how it seemed he just stood there. I didn't consider the foot placement. But with MMA I still feel like they have a better chance of dodging something like that because they can easily drop for legs etc.

So would you say Kampman should focus on his footwork? That he should have a stance that would allow him flexible room for counters and dodging?

Your comment was very helpful. The others people not as much. But this is sherdog...
