Kampman being orthodox made several mistakes. He backed straight up was the first one. And it wasn't a 1-2 it was a 3-2. This was significant for a couple of reasons. One it tends to open up the defender down the middle for the following shot, which it did, two it allowed Hendricks to get his lead foot outside of Kampman which then gave him a shorter distance and a better angle for his southpaw rear straight to come up the middle unopposed. Plus the angle meant it was less likely there would be any significant counter coming back. And lastly that hook made him more likely to back straight up rather than circle away from the power hand because it cut off his outside track. He could have gone under it or inside but he was already going backwards and it since he had a more upright stance harder for him to get low enough in time.
It was a lot more than a simple 1-2
