Either that or he should have ditched M-1. But even getting rid of M-1 wouldn't havechange the fact that finding god changed him as a fighter.

Personally I suspect he may well have been planning to retire after the Barnett fight and got rather dragged into competing in SF when that match fell though.

Really though I don't think Fedor has shown anything close to the level of decline of someone like Crocop. Physically I don't think he was actually much worse in SF than he was in Affliction, certainly not as big or fast as in Pride/Rings but the main issue to me seemed to be focus.

Ultimately he wasnt dominated in any of his loses and besides perhaps vs Hendo(where the ref stoppage was IMHO questionable) I think you can point to poor technical mistakes that led to his defeats. I'd want to see whether he can get back the old focus, his comebacks while agenst lower level opposition did seem to hint at it.

I think he could still do it. His last opponents weren't spectacular but you could see the change in his approach, fighting far more sensibly, as opposed to his three losses where he paid for being far too aggressive and sloppy. Seemed like he'd learnt some lessons and was reacting positively.

THIS.......

Fedor once he got his money and was comfortable at home basically switched gears in his life like many athletes. Things outside of the sport mean more than they ever did before. Sure you still want to be the best but other things take you away from being the best.

I agree I don't think Fedor's skills have really dropped off much at all. Even if his speed has dropped slightly he still is one of the quickest HW's around. His downfall has more to do with his caring about his craft as much as he use too. Even in his last 3 fights you saw a much different approach to those fights. Fedor took his time and carried out a thoughtful game plan and stayed in composure.

Overall though Fedor seems just fine with retirement, so I'll let him be.

I suspect he may have suffered from something thats brought many big names(BJ, Chuck, Rampage etc) down in the end aswell, becoming too locked into a single mindset.

Fedor was always aggresive but post Crocop I think its noteble that he faced alot of guys who hyper aggression was a good tactical move agenst. Guys like Choi and Hunt had an obvious weakness to subs while AA and Sylvia had an obvious weakness to aggresive standup, all of which Fedor exploited. Agenst his SF opponants though I'd say a more diverse tactical game was likely needed.
