Miami and LA. fuck those two cities
I can't comment on denver, portland, or austin. I've been to all 3, but not for long enough. I have heard great things about all 3.

Holy crap that's pretty accurate. Portland is great BTW.
FWIW - most people equate Miami Beach with Miami, which I think is a mistake.

I liked Portland. Didn't love it. Oregon overall is great, especially the coast.

Of the 3? NYC and its not even close. Four seasons. Close to the ocean. Close to other major cities: Boston, Philly, Montreal. Culture. Cuisine. Nightlife. Not even a good MMA city for spectators but pretty much every other major sport is covered twice.

my roommate is from portland and he NEVER shuts up about it, so it must have something going for it. seeing as we have similar taste in cities, I think I'd probably like it. I've only been to the pacific NW once to visit colleges, but I loved it.
I'm probably 50% guilty of this. I've been to miami twice and was disgusted with what I saw both times.

I have a good buddy in Portland and have been going there for the last 10 yrs. I think it's great. You should definitely check it out.
Re: Miami
I love Miami Beach but I have never been anywhere in Miami that wasn't a hole (except for Biscayne Bay). I'm sure there are soem nice areas, I just haven't seen them.

Los Angeles. Hollywood is crazy. I went to Avalon and BLVD3 last time I was there. Blows anything Boston and NYC has to offer.

Yea, people need to learn the difference. LA the city sucks ass. LA the county has several desirable areas.

I plan to move to NYC when I am able. I can't drive so living in LA is hell.
