Fight was certainly not "closer than people think." I'm a Mundine fan and this performance was terrible... I gave him like two rounds and those were the last rounds. He put a very lousy effort and could have been much better. If he performs like this he may as well retire.
Anyways props to Geale.

Glad Mundine lost, Geale is the much better boxer.

Geale just looked like he was on a different level to Mundine

It's just nice that the average aussie punter who knows nothing much about boxing is now talking about Geale. He deserves some recognition, and it's good to have someone representing boxing in Australia who is actually likeable and humble.
also - picked it. should've put some money on it. c'est la vie.

Agreed. I couldn't believe the lack of hype after he beat Sturm. Two world titles simultaneously is bigger than anything Mundine has done. In fact isn't Geale the first Aussie since Kostya Tszyu to achieve that?
Good to see he's getting some rep back home now.

I agree. I don't see how people thought Mundine was in this fight.

Couldn't be more wrong. Mundine's jab only started to work later in the fight and for the majority of it he never landed it cleanly. Geale was setting his shots up beautifully from start to finish.

Geale lacks power and could not put an aging Mundine away.
Full credit to Mundine he stuck to his game plan and fought a good fight .

More to do with Mundine's defensive style and using his elbow as a weapon. Put Geale off from working on the inside like he would prefer to. As you said, part of the game plan.
Watching it last night I only gave Mundine 2 rounds at best.

My understanding is Mundine has never actually won a major title outright, he has won interim titles, and has won those weird WBA titles where they have 2 champions but he was never the primary WBA title holder, and IBO is hardly a belt worthy of world champion status. I think it's weighing down heavily on Mundine, especially since his country men like Green & Geale have actually won world titles. He may try to keep going until somehow, somewhere gets his hands on an actuall fully fledged World title
