I'm 16 and I'm wondering if amateur muay thai competitions are allowed for minors in the state of California.

idk about that, but you can do BJJ and grappling tornements till your 18

I did asked one of the guys at my gym, and he said no. But at the same time, I saw a kid and a couple other guys come in after our practice and they were using the gym for themselves. The kid was 1 or 2 years younger than me and the other guys who were with him said he already had like 2-3 fights.

Yes, at 16 you can fight as an amateur in California.

I don't know about muay thai for sure, but I know minors can do MMA fights through the amateur league CAMO.
