And everyone is forgetting that Davis (pretty much a straight up wrestler in the grappling department) was out grappled by Evans (Wrestling + BJJ) which only goes to show that the way to the top is through both wrestling and BJJ

Wrestling by its self loses to BJJ by it self almost every time. This was proven time and time again in the old days.

As a wrestler, I think it is a bit of a ridiculous statement. You can't be good without good sub defense, no matter how good your wrestling is.

Sambo is also a form of wrestling that has many submissions incorporated into it. Jon jones is a very good catch/submission wrestler. Jiujitsu isn't the only martial art that has submissions in it. I dare you to tell josh barnett that his submission victories didn't come because of his wrestling.

I mean sakuraba showed wrestling can defeat BJJ, and shields has a pretty good hybrid form of it himself.

but still see chael vs. any BJJ and it's apparent that top tier wrestling can always fail to BJJ.
