Icon4 which basic skills to focus on?

I saw this over at ericwongmma.com and thought it was a really good idea. Basically, it said to choose three skills from 6 categories and really work on having them perfect. Here's what the sheet looked like. Categories and examples in brackets:

Takedowns and Takedown Defence (Single-leg takedown, sprawl)

Offensive Ground Skills (Triangle choke in guard, ground & pound in half guard)

Defensive Ground Skills (Side mount hip escape to guard, triangle choke escape)

Offensive Striking Techniques and Combos (Leg kicks, hooks to the body)

Defensive Striking Techniques and Combos (Slipping punches, checking leg kicks)

Striking Counter Attacks (Slipping a right cross then firing off a left hook-right cross)

So my question is.. how would you recommend that a complete beginner fills this in?

I think a beginner ought to focus more on the intangibles of each area before learning techniques. Get a basic understanding of the principles at work in stance, movement, striking, clinching and ground fighting, with only the very basic techniques taught. Then once the skill level increases, new techniques can be learned and practiced.

I feel like the Eric Wong thing is a very good idea for someone who already has a bit (not a lot, but a bit) of training in MMA; trying to learn a lot of different techniques right off the bat is a good way to confuse a new student.

I think Wrestling is the first thing you should learn in BJJ, and luckily it usually is.

By wrestling I mean no subs, nothing but getting dominant position and escaping bad ones.
Awesome triangle chokes and other subs aint useful when some guy is sitting on your chest.
